Growth Notes #4
Growth Notes: June 30 – July 13
I jot these down weekly or bi-weekly—just things I read, wrote, or listened to that nudged me a bit forward.
Reading
– Surprising But True A few things that were fascinating to me—62% of personal bankruptcies in the US come from medical debt. And if Earth’s existence was a 24-hour clock, humans show up at 11:59pm. Made me pause.
– Finished the book How to Talk to Anyone. Started Stephen King’s On Writing. 30% through—his early grind was humbling to read.
– This Is It “The most radical thing you can do in a culture obsessed with optimisation is to fully occupy your own choices . To be here instead of somewhere else. To do this instead of something better. To be satisfied with enough instead of always reaching for more.” That stayed with me.
– Why I Left My Tech Job to Work on Nobody Has A Personality Anymore Always inspiring to read stories of folks who choose the road less traveled.
Writing
– How to network as an introvert – condensed my notes from How to Talk to Anyone into something that actually feels usable. – How living in San Francisco made me more present – finally wrote this. Been sitting with the idea for a while.
Listening
– Designing AI for Human Flourishing with Alex Komoroske: Loved this talk and approach towards building intentional tech. Some of my favourite parts were the observation that we’re in the “rubbing sticks” phase of LLMs. Long-lived tasks need structure. Chat interfaces won’t cut it. Tech should feel more human, more private, less extractive.
